Information and Referral

Information and referral is available on a wide range of subjects including:

Information is provided in person or over the phone by trained volunteers. A current, comprehensive community information database, pamphlets, booklets and manuals enables access to thousands of agencies, services and procedures. Data is available about national, state, regional and local agencies.

Crisis Support

CISS Provides an intervention service for people in crisis. Trained staff provide a listening ear, support, information, referral to appropriate counselling services and practical assistance.

Emergency relief is provided for people experiencing financial hardship and may include food, food vouchers, gas and petrol, Met tickets, pharmaceutical needs and financial aid. Guidelines and eligibility criteria apply. A 'holistic' rather than 'band-aid' model of service delivery is used.

Counselling

CISS provides a generalist crisis intervention and counselling program, with a primary focus on individual and relationship counselling . The service is free and available to individuals, couples, families and groups who reside or work in the Casey South area.

Advocacy and Negotiation

Trained staff provide advocacy and negotitation services on behalf of clients with government departments, service providers, landlords, businesses, neighbours etc. with regard to many issues including debt, services and procedures.

Share Accommodation Register

A register for people looking for or offering to share accommodation.

Tax Help

Volunteer staff are trained by the Taxation Department to assist people fill in simple tax returns. This service is offered to people on low incomes, the aged, people with disabilities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, young people, pensioners, unemployed people with literacy or numeracy difficulties, and people from non-english speaking backgrounds.

CISS keeps a register of service providers and community groups which offer opportunities for people interested in voluntary work.

Volunteer Program

CISS volunteers undertake an extensive training program, including a 50 hour internationally accredited course, orientation and a probationary period before becoming accredited community information workers. A focus on personal development enables volunteers to further develop particular skills or interests in fields such as public relations information management, research, administration, computers etc.

Our main objective is to provide a response to the needs of our clients. A support worker is able to support you in many different situations/ways. This could include:

All interviews are private and confidential. You will have the same support worker at all times. We will liaise with other welfare/support agencies. We are able to advocate/negotiate on your behalf or support you during this process. Support is only a phone call away.
